Using Satellite Data to Optimize Wheat Yield and Quality under Climate Change

Climatic conditions during the grain-filling period are a major factor affecting wheat grain yield and quality. Wheat in many semi-arid arid areas faces high-temperature stress this period. Remote sensing can be used to monitor both crops environmental temperature. The objective of study was develop tool optimize field management (cultivar sowing time). Analysis 155 cultivar experiments (from 10 growth seasons) representing different revealed required degree-days for each Israeli spring reach heading emergence). We developed Google Earth Engine (GEE) app analyze time series gap-filled 1 km MODIS land surface temperature (LSTcont). By changing and/or emergence date GEE app, farmer “expose” climatic period, thereafter enabling him choose best sown with right timing. This approach is expected reduce number fields that suffer from heat also assess effects global warming scenarios plan adaptation strategies other regions too.
